The Lion King at Minskoff Theatre

While away in the forest, he runs into new friends, Timon and Pumbaa, who bring joy to Simba's lonely life and include him in their group. the young prince's happy-go-lucky mindset then takes a turn when Simba once more chances upon his childhood confidant Nala, who encourages him to return to the Pride Lands and requests him to retake his rightful place as king.

This complicated plot of loss, true friendship, and eventual redemption is amplified by the original film's music, created by Elton John and Tim Rice. Their original compositions, partnered with additional songs and lyrics from the likes of Zimmer, Lebo M, Mark Mancina, Jay Rifkin, and director Julie Taymor have improved and elevated the quality of The Lion King not only in local performances, but also in international productions.

The Disney stage adaptation began on July 8, 1997, at the Orpheum theater in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The show was an instant box office hit and was praised for its unique execution, leading to the show's move and reopening on the Broadway stage on October 15, 1997.
